LinkedIn

  • How can I join the Alumni Association group on LinkedIn?
    To join the group, you must be a member on LinkedIn.com.  You may visit their website for instructions on how to create a profile.  Once you have become a member of LinkedIn, click here to visit our group, and request admission to the group.
  • I am a graduating senior, a non-degree alumnus, or a previous student.  Can I still join the group?
    Graduating seniors, the Institute of Pastoral Studies, graduates of the Mundelein College and students who attended, but did not graduate Loyola, are welcome to join our group.  Please note that you may be asked for your affiliation with Loyola during the approval process.
  • My request to join is still pending, and it has been more than one business day.
    If you made your request on a Friday, or a day before a holiday, we will more than likely approve your request on the next business day.  If not, please contact our office at 312-915-7660, and we will help you with your membership.
  • Why was I recently denied membership in the LinkedIn group?
    If you have been denied membership, it is more than likely that you did not meet the above criteria.  If you feel that this denial was made in error, please call our office at 312-915-7660.
  • How can I make my profile more noticable?
    There are many different ways to make your LinkedIn profile more noticable to potential employers. 
    • The easiest step is to include as much information about yourself as you can.
    • List all previous employers, along with your titles at those companies. 
    • Including a picture (make sure you're smiling!) will make your profile stand out from the rest. 
    • If you have fellow co-workers or friends on LinkedIn, write a review for each other.  Having reviews on your profile shows potential employers information they may not necessarily get from a resume. 

Facebook

  • How do I become a fan of Loyola?  Who can be a fan?
    To become a fan, you must first be a member of facebook.  To register, go to facebook.com, and create a profile.  Once you are a member on facebook, you can click here to join our fan page.  Membership is not moderated, and anyone is welcome to join.
  • Can I submit photos to the fan page?
    Yes!  If you have alumni wedding photos, event photos, etc., please post them on our facebook fan page!  In our photo album, there's an option to upload fan photos. 
  • I have a story I want to share with the rest of the group.
    Fantastic.  You can either post in our forum, post in our wall, or e-mail LUC-ALUM@luc.edu, and we can post your story as a note on the fan page.
  • I want to join the Loyola University Chicago network, but facebook says I need a valid university address.  What should I do?
    As of now, facebook only allows users who have a LUC.edu address to join the Loyola University Chicago network.  You do not need to be a part of this network to join our fan page.  However, if you would still like to show your Loyola pride on your facebook profile, you may join the network by setting up email forwarding.  Email forwarding creates an email address (username@alum.luc.edu) that forwards any email sent to it to your standard email account (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo!, etc).  Click here if you have not registered already, or to set up e-mail forwarding with your account.  Please note that it may take up to 24 hours for your @alum.luc.edu address to begin forwarding emails. 

Twitter

  • How do I follow LU Wolf?
    To follow LU Wolf, you must be registered at Twitter.com.  After registration, visit http://twitter.com/LU_Wolf.  Underneath LU_Wolf's photo, there is a button marked follow.  After clicking on it, LU_Wolf will begin showing up in your Twitter feed.  If you have signed up for text message updates from twitter, text ON LU_Wolf to 40404, and LU_Wolf's updates will be sent to your cell phone.  Visit twitter.com for more information on setting up text message updates.  Please note that your phone carrier may charge you for receiving text messages.

RSS Feeds

  • How do I subscribe to an RSS feed?
    To subscribe to an RSS feed, click on one of the links on our RSS page.  In order to subscribe to a feed, you must have a feed reader.  If you have an account on Yahoo or Google, you can use their online feed readers.  For a list of feed readers, both web-based and software, click here.
  • Who can follow the RSS Feed?
    Anyone!  We encourage students, alumni, faculty, staff, or anyone who wants to read about alumni news to sign up.
  • I have a story I'd like to submit for the Alumni Association RSS feed.
