SSOM Receives Eight-Year LCME Accreditation

The third-party endorsement is like the grand prize in the world of marketing -- and it works pretty well for morale, too.  It's a wonderful moment when you learn that an external, independent source believes that your facilities are excellent, your programs are of high-caliber and your physicians and staff are top-notch. In short -- it's great when the outside world validates what we've known all along.

On July 13, Dr. Richard Gamelli, Dean of Stritch School of Medicine, announced the school received an eight-year accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).  Last November, a team from the LCME spent nearly a full week conducting a survey at Stritch. In its report, the survey team highlighted several notable strengths.

They were impressed that “Students exhibit an exceptional spirit of service and community and actively seek opportunities to serve disadvantaged patients.” The reviewers also pointed out: “The educational program is highly innovative in addressing established competencies of life-long learning and professionalism.” And also, “The quality of general facilities is excellent.” They further praised Stritch's patient-centered medicine courses, the ministry program and the Teaching and Learning Center.

Congratulations to all at Stritch who contributed to this successful survey.
